Support from periods to postpartum
Welcome, I’m Sinnead
My approach to menstrual wellbeing and birthwork is rooted in justice, meaning that I believe everyone deserves to be supported in these incredible initiatory moments of life, however that looks for them.
For most of my teens and twenties, like most people, I held the belief that periods were painful and childbirth was scary.
Coming off the pill at 27 made me confront underlying symptoms that were screaming out for my attention and question why, socially, we don’t talk about menstruation, pregnancy and birth more.
I knew there must be a type of womb-centred care that went beyond expecting women to push through pain. I was introduced to menstrual cycle awareness and abdominal massage, as well as other holistic practices like seed cycling, and found myself living much more in a rhythm that made sense for me.
As my relationship with my cycle deepened to a deep reverence for this incredible inner wisdom, my interest piqued around birth. I furthered my yoga teacher training to include prenatal and postnatal yoga, I took several doula trainings and studied physiology in pure awe of the female body.
Womb work and peaceful birth is a Remembering
Everything I do is because I have a deep respect for the planet, for women and the Feminine.
In society, the male body is seen as ‘the blueprint’, and periods are something to put up with and ignore. Birth is treated as a purely biomedical event. Parenting is expected to happen in solitude despite the growing rate of maternal suicide in the UK.
These things are fine for a highly productive society, but not for a well society and certainly not one where women get to thrive.
But our bodies, our rhythms and our ability to birth are not broken. I believe so deeply that when women remember this power, the shift caused will heal the planet and us all.
